Mobile Shopping App for iOS & Android

Sternsteiger Stahlwaren GmbH has been successfully operating a Shopify online store for high-quality steel products for several years. To further improve the customer shopping experience and strengthen customer loyalty, the company commissioned us to develop a cross-platform mobile app for iOS and Android.

Challenge

During the implementation, we encountered a technical limitation on Shopify's part:

  • Shopify does not offer a direct cross-platform integration for mobile apps.

  • The Shopify Mobile Buy SDK for iOS was no longer shipping with the necessary Objective-C interfaces, making it difficult to implement natively.

  • A complete redevelopment of the missing interfaces to integrate Shopify into an app using the GraphQL Storefront API would have significantly exceeded the project budget.

Solution

Instead of focusing on the costly development of our own Shopify interfaces, we worked with our customer to develop a more efficient and sustainable solution:

  • Development of a proprietary white-label platform on which the Sternsteiger Stahlwaren app is built.

  • Optimized Shopify integration that works without the outdated SDKs and instead uses modern, high-performance connections.

  • Advanced features that go beyond Shopify to provide more customer interaction and analytics options.

Thanks to this approach, we were not only able to get around the technical hurdles elegantly, but also to create a scalable basis for future Shopify apps.

Results

The Sternsteiger Stahlwaren mobile app has been available for download from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store since this week.

  • Shopify integration with optimized performance

  • Matomo Analytics as a privacy-friendly first-party tracking solution

  • Push notifications to inform customers about offers and promotions in a targeted manner

  • Scalable white-label platform that can also be used for future customer projects

The customer's initial customer feedback is very positive, and they are excited about the opportunity to add more features and integrations to the app in the future.
